Hakimpur in the war of Liberation

A brief history of the 'Sammukh Samar'  in the War of Liberation

As the Hili border is the main communication point between Dinajpur and South Dinajpur in India, the region is desperate to occupy the area, which is considered extremely important to the Pak-Hanadar forces due to its tactical past. From April 14, 1971, they tried to capture Hili.At one stage, on the afternoon of 19 April (Tuesday), the invading forces launched a three-pronged attack on the Alpha Company of Captain Anwar Hossain of the 3rd East Bengal and the freedom fighters. Unable to withstand their onslaught, Captain Anwar's party disbanded and took up position at Bakshiganj Ambagan in Hili, India. In this battle 6 people from 3 East Bengal were martyred. In this situation, on 21 April 1971, the invading forces captured Hili and established a reign of terror all around. Pakistani forces used to build concrete sculptures in the Hili area of the 4th Frontier Force Battalion: they built a very strong defense system here. Apart from raping, looting and arson of women in the surrounding areas, the invading forces also captured and tortured the Bengalis. On 1 November 1971, a joint operation was launched by the joint forces including the Mukti Bahini to overthrow the invading forces. The Indian Air Force fired shells during the attack but failed to destroy the enemy's strong defenses at first. On the contrary, many Allied soldiers were martyred on this day.Subsequently, on 9 and 10 December 1971, a joint force led by Indian 202nd Mountain Brigadier launched a relentless offensive and defeated the occupying forces at the cost of the lives of many freedom fighters and allied soldiers. Finally, on December 11, 1971, the Healy region was liberated from the enemy. Our monument "Sammukh Samar" is a symbol of the nation's respect for the sacrifices of the martyred freedom fighters and members of the Allied forces.
